KANAB, Utah - Adeline Riggs Egbert, 96, died Friday, March 2, 2001 at the Kane County Care Center in Kanab, Utah.
Born April 17, 1904 in Kanab, UT the eighth and last child of Brigham Adelbert Riggs, Sr. and Rachel Ford Riggs. She attended schools in Kanab,
West Jordan and at the University of Utah. On Aug 29, 1924, she married her sweetheart, Harold Allen Egbert.
They were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on their shared twenty-first birthdays, April 17, 1925, and made homes for themselves in Magna, Price, and West Jordan. After Harold's death in 1932 she returned to Kanab to raise her three small children and to care for her elderly parents. There she worked for Kanab Equitable, Parry Lodge, and Mountain Bell Telephone. She later worked for Las Vegas Desert Travel Bureau and then for Merrit, Chapman and Scott during construction of Glen Canyon Dam.
Adeline valued her independence. She loved her Savior, her church and her country. If she had a motto, it was, "Helping others makes them happy and then I am happy, too." As an exemplary daughter, mother, grandmother, caretaker, friend, and neighbor, she excelled in sewing, knitting, quilting, cooking and flower arranging, receiving many ribbons at the county fair. She was a master of many things.
Adeline is survived by son, Hal (Nancy) Egbert, Salt Lake City; daughter Dolores (Mel) Rider, Richfield, UT; 11 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Metz Hamblin; parents; all of her siblings: Brigham Adelbert Riggs Jr., John Ensign Riggs, Winnie Swapp, Emily Macdonald, Harriet Gardner, Rachel Gardner, Ruth [Young] Drew; and a great-grandson, Daniel Cowley.
Services will be Mon. March 5, 2001, 11 a.m. in the Kanab Utah Stake Center. Viewing will be 7-8 p.m. Sun. at Mosdell Mortuary and 9:45-10:45 a.m. Mon. at the chapel. Burial, West Jordan Cemetery, 7800 S. 1300 W, West Jordan, Tues. March 6, 2001, 1 p.m. Directors, Mosdell Mortuary.
