Paul Abel, 88, of 304 N. Washington St., died July 28, 2005 at Elkhart General Hospital, after a short illness. He was born Nov. 19, 1916, in Wakarusa, to Ralph M. and Edna (Pletcher) Abel. On Sept. 27, 1941, he married Evelyn Roose. She died in 1957. In 1961, he married Vera Wallace. She died in 2001. Surviving are three sons, Don Abel and Steve (Barb) Abel, both of Nappanee, and Rick (Gail) Abel of Wakarusa; two daughters, Becky (Johnnie) Moody of Granger and Darlene (Fred) Slyford of Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathryn Weaver; and one brother, Dr. Robert (Betty) Abel of Wakarusa. The Rev. Ed Geleske of Wakarusa United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Olive Cemetery (West), Wakarusa. Mr. Abel graduated from Wakarusa High School in 1933. Since 1945, he was the owner of Franklin Coach Co. He was one of the founding members of Recreation Vehicle Industry Association, was RVIA show chairman for more than 30 years, Indiana Manufactured Housing Association show chairman at Notre Dame for more than 25 years, MH/RV Hall of Fame member and a former Elkhart County 4-H Fair Board member. Memorials may be given to Hospice Care.
