George John Gianikas, age 95 passed away on November 8, 2018.

He was born in Nashville, Tennessee to the late, John George & Tina (Perini) Gianikas.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Mary Ellen (Captain) Gianikas; siblings, Mary McDaniel & Billy Gianikas.

George was a son of immigrants, raised during the height of The Great Depression. He was a graduate of Hume-Fogg Vocational High School and entered the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the 95th Infantry Division known as the “Iron Men of Metz”, which was assigned to and commanded by General Patton’s 3rd Army. George’s integrity propelled him from poverty to becoming a thriving entrepreneur.

George’s character was self-evident. He had a strong handshake, work ethic and a positive outlook on life. His priorities was the love for his family and his constant measure of good will toward those in need. George was an avid golfer, with four holes in one to his credit and was a longstanding member of the Hillwood Country Club. He was known tenderly by his grandchildren as, “Papouli”.

He is survived by his children, Georganne (David) Goodwin, John (Susan) Gianikas and Tim (Susie) Gianikas; grandchildren, Joanne (David) Foster, John Goodwin, Tim Goodwin, George Goodwin, Mary (Chris) Lankford, Matthew Goodwin, Lilly Gianikas and Jennifer(Johnny) Nacarato; great-grandchildren, Ashley Morgan, Jackson Nacarato and Riley Nacarato; sister, Lula Callis.

A Gathering of family & friends will be held from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13th 2018 at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12 noon Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with visitation one hour prior. Special thanks to Stacey Harris who staffed the excellent caregivers that provided loving care of Papouli in his last days.
