Wray, Colo. — Ray William Howard, 89, passed away Thursday, Sept. 28, 2018. He was born Dec. 28, 1928, in St. Francis, Kan.

Survivors: sons, Rodger Howard, and Bill Howard, both of Wray; daughter, Irene Stute, of Westminster, Colo; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Marion Crites, of Wray.

Preceded in death by his wife, Ingeborg (Burndorfer) Howard (Oct. 2017).

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at Knodel Funeral Home, St. Francis, with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.

Memorials to: Hillcrest Care Center, Wray High School Athletic Department, or Parkinson’s Foundation, in care of the funeral home.

Ray William Howard was born to Roy and Irene Hoover Howarad Dec. 28, 1928 at St. Francis, KS. He passed away Sept. 28, 2018 in Wray at the age of 89.

Ray attended school in St. Francis. In 1950 Ray joined the Army and was stationed at Camp McCauley in Linz, Austria. While stationed in Austria he met his wife, Ingeborg Burrndorfer. They were married Dec. 12, 1953 in Wels, Austria and were blessed with three children, Irene, Rodger, and William.

Ray was employed by T. B. Groves and Hadley-Fix Equipment Company before working at Buchanan Middle School as custodian. In 2001 seven years after retiring from the Wray School District he purchased the ice business from his sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and John Jacobson and ran the business until it sold in 2015.

Rat was an avid sports fan and could be seen at many of the Wray Eagle sporting events. Ray attended the Wray-Burlington game the evening he passed away.

In 1982 Ray and Inge became the legal guardians and raised their grandchildren: Charlotte, Christina, and Michael.

Many mornings were spent at his mother's home where his brothers, sisters, and other family members gathered for coffee until her death.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ingeborg Burrndorfer Howard; parents Roy and Irene Hoover Howard; brothers, Clarence, Alan, and Donald, and Merlyn Howard; sisters, Orpha Brown and Wanda Jacobson; great-grandson Jerry Schmidt; step-granddaughter, Carrie Norrell and step-great-grandson, Jesse Norrell.

He is survived by his sister, Marion Crites of Wray; his sister-in law, Erika Hager of Austria; his daughter, Irene and husband LeRoy Stute of Westminster; and sons, Rodger Howard and wife Lana and William Howard and wife Shirley all of Wray; grandchildren, Phronsie and husband, Ty Godwin of Denver; Elysia and husband Zachary Stallings of Thornton; Justin Stute and wife, Katie of Parker; Charlotte Templeton, and Michael Howard and wife Tenia Ostlee, all from Wray; Serena and husband Lonnie Hodge and Eric Howard, all from Sterling; Christina and husband James Hinton of South Carolina; Jason Howard and wife, Abby, and Travis Howard and wife, Nicole, all from St. Francis; and JB and Vince Sawyer of Wray, as well as 27 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Oct. 7 at Knodel Funeral Home in St. Francis.

Interment was held at the St. Francis Cemetery following the service.
