Carol Schweikhard passed peacefully in her home on the morning of Tuesday, October 30. She leaves behind her adoring husband of 35 years, Jake Schweikhard, her two loving daughters, Andrea (Aaron) Robison and April Schweikhard (Mark Campbell), and her precious granddaughters, Magdalene and Rose Marie.

Carol Sue (Simmons) Schweikhard was born on April 3, 1955, in St. Louis, Missouri, to her beloved parents, Jim and Mary Lou Simmons, who preceded her. She was the fourth of six children and will be missed by her three older sisters, Jamie (Bill) Thompson, Sherry (Gary) Morgan, and Sally Evans, and her two younger brothers, David (Charlotte) Simmons and Jim (Susan) Simmons.

Carol grew up with her siblings in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and she had a special relationship with each of them. They will always remember Carol's ability to help a sibling in need and take charge where needed. She attended nursing school at St. John's School of Nursing in 1976. Carol was a skilled O.R. nurse for many years, and more than one surgeon would rearrange their schedules to ensure they had Carol at their right hand during surgery.

Carol became involved in the Garnett Church of Christ young professionals group and met the love of her life at a group Christmas party. Jake and Carol both made lifelong friends through their work with the church youth ministry and their participation in the Heaven Generation Singers, where she was valued for her warm alto voice. Carol is often remembered by her friends as the group's "den mother" for her natural ability and tendency to take care of those around her.

Carol married Jake on August 5, 1983. Nine months later, they welcomed Andrea Rose into their family, and two years after that, added little April Joy. Carol was a devoted mother; she will be remembered for her delicious roast, her intricate handmade Halloween costumes, and her unique ability to comfort and encourage. These abilities were not reserved for her children; several of Carol's nieces and many of Andrea and April's friends can share special stories of how Carol provided encouragement, wisdom, or simply an understanding ear.

While the girls were still in high school, Carol turned her skills to work at Wright Christian Academy as a math and science teacher. Unsurprisingly, she proved herself equally talented in the classroom, though many of her students will remember Mrs. Schweikhard as a mentor in addition to their teacher. Eventually, her calling as a nurse caught up with her, and she went back to work as a school nurse at Oak Crest Elementary in Broken Arrow, where she endeared herself to her coworkers for her ability to organize and manage a dauntingly large number of high needs cases that would have overwhelmed a less stalwart nurse. During this time, Carol took on yet another role when her granddaughters were born - first Magdalene (6), then Rose Marie (4) - and she became a most beloved Nana.

Carol always enjoyed traveling, especially when it included her family. Jake and Carol took many special trips together; her favorites have always been sunset at the Grand Canyon and the coast of Maine. Although we feel her time on earth with us was cut short, Carol certainly packed a full life into her 63 years; she has left behind a legacy of love that will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked donations be made to Dry Bones Denver https://drybonesdenver.org/donate/. When you are on the website select the drop down menu - Memorial Gifts for the campaign.
