1936 July 12 second son born to Hugh Perry Barringer and Edna Lenora Coogler Barringer.
His education included a MS and BS in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University. He was a participant in Harvard University's three-week Manufacturing Strategy conference.

In 1960, on December 23, he married Martha Sue Edwards.

Industrial experience included the oil and gas services business for high pressure and deep holes, super alloy manufacturing, and isotope separation using ultra high speed rotating devices.
