James Jefferson "Bud" Bateman, Jr. was the 2nd son and the 2nd child of James Jefferson Bateman, Sr. and Sarah Ann Barber Bateman. He married Lula Louise Gilliam Bateman, daughter of George Washington Gilliam and Louise Gipson Gilliam, on Jan 31, 1893. They had 2 sons and 2 daughters.

J. J. Bateman
J. J. Bateman, an old-time resident of the Highland community died at his family home Sunday night, Febuary 15, at 11 o'clock. He was born June 19, 1859 and was married to Miss Lula Gilliam January 31, 1893 and to this union four children were born. Jeff D., Denton L., and two baby girls having died in infancy. He lived an upright Christian life, was a devited companion, loving father and highly respected citizen. The funeral services were held at the home and were conducted by Rev. Hallonquist, pastor of Edgewood Methodist church, after which the body was brought to Edgewood and laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery Monday afternoon.

We wish to thank the good people who so kindly ministered to us during the illness and death of our beloved husband and father.
