Born April 3, 1933, in West Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late E. Earl and Virginia (Gensimore) Davis. He was united in marriage to the former Barbara Ann Hay, June 21, 1969, at Stone Church of the Brethren, Huntingdon. His wife of 49 years survives at their residence. Mr. Davis is survived by four children, Rodney J. Davis and wife, Johanna, of Petersburg, Ann C. Davis, also of Petersburg, Suzanne Davis Evans and husband, Grayson, of State College, and Jane E. Taylor and husband, Ian, of Thompson Falls, Montana; four grandchildren, Mason Davis Evans and Sadie Jane Evans of State College, and Gabriella Virginia Taylor and Ava Kathryn Taylor of Thompson Falls, Montana. Mr. Davis is also survived by three siblings, Margaret McGargle, Elmer Davis, and Mary Metz, all of Petersburg, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was a lifelong member of the Petersburg Bethel Presbyterian Church (USA). He was an ordained Elder, served as a Clerk of Sessions for 35 years, and produced the church newsletter for 25 years. He attended Bridge School, a one-room school, for eight years. He graduated from Juniata Valley High School in 1951 and enrolled in Penn State University to study agricultural sciences. In 1953, he interrupted his studies to serve in the Signal Corp for the U.S. Army, stationed at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in Paris, France, as a cryptographer. Following his military service, he completed his B.S. in Agriculture at Penn State. He taught school and farmed on the family farm before enrolling at West Virginia University, earning an M.A. in Education in 1967. He returned to Juniata Valley School District where he fulfilled a 33-year career in teaching and administration. While teaching, farming and serving the church, he also committed his time and talents volunteering for numerous community, agricultural and educational related organizations. In the mid-1960s, he elected to board of the Huntingdon County Agricultural Association which sponsors the annual Huntingdon County Fair, serving as president from 2000 until his death. After his retirement in 1996, he extended his volunteer time to positions in the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences, the Huntingdon Presbytery and the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs (PSACF). Serving as vice-president and president of the PSACF in 2007-2011, he visited all 117 agricultural fairs in Pennsylvania. He was a loyal Penn Stater and was proud to say his father graduated in 1917 and his wife and children, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, also earned PSU degrees. He was passionate about all PSU sports, especially football. A man of strong faith, he believed God gives each person gifts which are to be used to help others and make the world a better place for all. He was devoted to his entire family and considered every student he taught as "one of his kids." He led by example throughout his life. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at the Juniata Valley High School, 7775 Juniata Valley Pike, Alexandria. Friends will be received following the service. A private burial was previously held at the Mooresville Cemetery.
