Hans John Joachim Bauer passed away at his home in Chester, Nebr. on June 8, 1937, at the age of 78 years, 4 months and 29 days. He had been a resident of Chester for the past 18 years. Before that he made his home on a farm near Gladstone for more than 30 years. Mr. Bauer was the father of William J. Bauer and Walter Bauer of Fairbury and of John Bauer of Gladstone.
Hans John Joachim Bauer was born in McHenry county, Ill., on January 9, 1859. In 1864 his parents moved to Richardson county, Nebr., where he grew to manhood. On October 11, 1883, he was married to Miss Mary Geebhardt (sic, Gebhard correct). To this union seven children were born, five sons and two daughters. One son, Carl passed away on Jan. 21, 1937.
In 1890 he moved with his family from Richardson county to Gladston, Nebr., where he lived on a farm until 1920 at which time he moved to Chester residing there until his death. As a young man he became a member of the Lutheran church and it was from the Chester Lutheran church that his services were held.
He is survived by his wife and the following children: William J. and Walter of Fairbury. Mrs. Anna Frank of Chester, Miss (sic) Elmer Bauer of Oak, Nebr., Miss Josephine of Chester and John of Gladstone. He also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Ella Gebhardt(sic) and Mrs. Eliza Meinheit of Falls City, Mrs. Etta Jorn of Verdon and Mrs. Betty Pierce of Springfield, Ill. In addition to these relatives he is survived by seventeen grandchildren and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held at Chester, Nebr., at the Lutheran church, Rev. Juengle conducting the services. Burial was in the church cemetery. Those who came from out of town to attend the services were Mrs. Charles Gebhardt (sic), Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Gebhardt (sic), Mrs. Eliza Gebhardt (sic) Mrs. Henry Meinheit, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Jorn, Mr. and Mrs. Bruen, Ed Bauer, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Zentner, Mr. and Mrs. Haneke and Mr. and Mrs. Perry Zorn, all of Richardson county, Nebr.
