Virgil Milton Sorth of Owensville, Missouri was born Sunday, February 22, 1925 at St. Louis, Missouri and he left from this life on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Rolla, Missouri at the age of 92 years.
Virgil was united in marriage to Dolores Koch on May 11, 1945 at Afton, Missouri and to this union one son was born Gary. Virgil and Dolores were happily married for sixty-eight years when Dolores passed away in January 2014.
After graduating from high school in St. Louis, Virgil proudly served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. After the service, Virgil became a business and residential contractor. He retired after fifty plus years of being a builder. Virgil planted a garden every spring and worked in it all summer long. You could find him fishing, when the weather was good.
Virgil was a softy when it came to animals. He would adopt any animal that he found, that didn’t have a home. He was known for stopping and telling people that their animals need to come inside or that the animals needed better care. He had many cats and dogs throughout his lifetime.
Virgil was a member of the VFW Bledose Bulas Post #6133 in Owensville, Missouri for many years.
Virgil was a loving son, brother, husband, father, father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, friend of all animals and friend of many people.
Virgil is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Gary Sorth, fourteen brothers and sisters, nephew Terry Skinner, brother-in-law Emmett Skinner, sister-in-law Mildred Holler and other family and friends.
Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his daughter-in-law Janet Sorth of St. Louis, sister-in-law Shirley Skinner of Cuba, nephew Donald Ferrell of Owensville, niece Sandy and husband Tommy Brooks of Pacific, Missouri and niece Ileta Ferrell of Cuba, great nieces, great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
In keeping with Virgil’s wishes, his body was donated to St. Louis University School of Medicine, so others could be helped in the future.
A family gathering will be held later in the spring.
