ST. GEORGE -- Clair Ernest Durfee, age 82, died peacefully Friday, April 16, 2004. He was born February 27, 1922, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is the son of Ernest and Gracie Durfee. He was born with a birth defect, called Cerebral Palsy, which had caused him to be physically disabled. But that didn't stop him from being the most courageous, talented, outgoing, honest, hardworking, spiritual, loveable, devoted friend to all of us. It has been a great honor, to get to know such a very bright, incredible, intelligent, man. He had a tremendous way of teaching and inspiring the young and old.

Clair loved children, going fishing, getting a great tan, ringing his bell, flirting, teasing, but most of all teaching us all the lessons in life.

He moved to Southern Utah in 1995. First living with ARC, then moving to Danville Services. Clair lived in a home with five roommates, who became part of his family. They all loved him, and will miss him dearly, along with all of his friends and support staff who have had the privilege to know him and work with him, throughout his life time.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest L. Durfee Jr. and Gracie (Youngstrom) Durfee; brother Neil J. Durfee; and sisters Adele F. Durfee and Della P. Durfee. He is survived by his roommates, Cathy Boberg, Liz Compton, Joyce Faircourt, Dennis Kingsley and Paul Oyler.

Services will be held Friday, April 23, 2004, in the Sunset 5th Ward 750 N. 1000 W. at 11:00 a.m. There will be a visitation prior to the service beginning at 9:30a.m.

Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary (435) 673-4221. Condolences may be sent through our web site at www.metcalfmortuary.com.
