Victor Bates Grandy
Alice V Grandy Robinson passed away Thursday morning, January 17, 1985. Mrs. Robinson was born December 5, 1919 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the daughter of Walter and Jessie Grandy. A resident of Kalamazoo since 1966, she had previously lived in Marshall, Michigan, Columbus and Oxford, Ohio. During her residence in Oxford she was employed as a spectographer at the National Lead Company for six years, and then as an interviewer for the family court in Hamilton, Ohio, for four years. After returning to Kalamazoo in 1966 she received her B.A. degree at Western Michigan University. Mrs. Robinson was the co-author and editor of a published history of her mother's family, the Bates.
Surviving are her husband, Dr. Frank B. Robinson, Professor Emeritus of Western Michigan University and formerly head of WMU's Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology; two daughters, Gerrie (Mrs. Walter) Kupper of Madison, NJ, and Margaret Robinson of Carrolltown, TX; a son Michael Robinson and his wife Ruth of El Cerrito, CA. There are three grandchildren: David and Scott Robinson, the sons of Michael and Ruth, and Thomas Kupper, son of Gerrie and Walter. Mrs. Robinson also has one brother, Victor (wife: Martha), of Denver, CO, and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and no chapel service is planned. A grave side ceremony will be held at a future date. Interment will be at Columbia Cemetery, Williams County, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Archives, Western Michigan University, or a charity of choice.
