Ernest Eugene “Ernie” Schulz Jr., age 85, of McHenry, died Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at Crossroads Care Center.

He was born December 5, 1932 in Chicago to Ernest E. Sr. And Nora Veronica (Dolan) Schulz. On June 18, 1966, he married Ramona Porter in Grayslake.

He was a veteran of the Air National Guard, and then became a member of the U.S. Air Force when his unit was activated during the Korean War. He served in Germany and France, as well as Korea.

After his discharge, he worked for the railroad for 37 years, and retired at the age of 65. During his tenure with the railroad, he was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Airline & Steamship Clerks of the AFL-CIO.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Ramona; three daughters, Gayle (David) Rich of Wisconsin, Kim Schulz of McHenry, and Kathy (Glen) Schriver of Fox Lake; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Terry French) Rich, Teresa (Tim) Felton, David Jr. (Christy) Rich, and Jonathan Schriver; two great-grandchildren, Melody & Logan Rich; and three sisters, LaVerne, Dolores “Sissy”, and Karen.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 29, 2018, from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. The funeral blessing will be at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.

Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
