Rt. Rev. Alfred Acton, II, 84, of Pineville, SC, a retired minister with The New Church, died Tuesday evening in a North Charleston hospital.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday afternoon, October 28, 2018, Graveside in the St. Stephen Episcopal Church Cemetery, St. Stephen, SC. Interment, directed by DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER, will follow. A celebration of life will be held 4:00 PM Saturday afternoon, November 3, 2018, in The Bryn Athan Cathedral, 900 Cathedral Road, Bryn Athyn, PA 19009. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to The General Church of New Jerusalem, c/o Office of Advancement, PO Box 708, Bryn Athyn, PA 19009.

Rt. Rev. Acton was born August 21, 1934, in Bryn Athyn, PA, a son of Kesniel Carswell Acton and Renee Odhner Acton. He was a member of The New Church where he was also assistant to the Bishop and traveled worldwide and was an instructor for The New Church from kindergarten through Theological School. He was a member of the American Legion, Son’s of the Academy, Sigma Delta Pi, the Berkeley Museum and the Berkeley County Soil Conservation. He enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies, playing Solitaire and Bridge, reading and bird watching. He was predeceased by two sisters, Winyss A. Shepard and Gwenda A. Barnitz.

Surviving are his wife, Henrietta Gourdin Acton; a son, Kesniel Carswell Acton of North Charleston; three sisters, Berith C. Acton of Treasure Island, FL, Doris A Halterman and Janice A. Rosco both of Bryn Athyn, PA; a special cousin, Uncle John Acton of Bryn Athyn, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
