Mr. Gressett was born on July 24, 1937 in Stamford, Texas to Abner Drew Gressett and Vergie Branner Gressett. He was their youngest child, and he attended Stamford High School and McMurry College.
He married Carolyn Bounds Gressett in Lubbock, Texas. They shared three children and sixty-two years of marriage. Together they were blessed and entertained by a large extended family. He was employed in the irrigation business, farming community, and dirt service industry. He lived most of his life in Spearman.
He belonged to First United Methodist Church, domino and bridge clubs, Hansford Golf Course, United States National Guard, and Masons. He enjoyed woodworking, playing golf and games, growing a garden, fishing, hunting, and sharing family time. He refereed football for over 15 years. He will be remembered for his kindness and soft-spoken nature.
Mr. Gressett is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his children and their spouses, Jeffrey Gressett of New York City, New York; Cindy and Tom Sinclair of Maumelle, Arkansas; Khristi and Kelly Jones of Amarillo, Texas. Affectionately called Papaw, he is survived by grandchildren Ches and Kinsey Phelps of Lubbock, Texas, Leslie and Bobby Breon of Olathe, Kansas, Christina and Seth Hairgrove of Amarillo, Texas, Abby Sinclair of Maumelle, Arkansas. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Charles and Caroline Hairgrove and a new princess due to arrive in 2019.
Mr. Gressett was preceded in death by his parents; two sistrs, Polly Potter and Dorothy Fay Gressett; two brothers, Bob Gressett and Dalton Gressett; and one grandson, Luke Sinclair.
