Robert Maynard, son of Marshall and Florida (McKibben) Anderson, was born November 16, 1931, in Norfolk, Virginia. On June 17, 2001, he married the love of his life, Jerry Loretta Vanderpool (nee Hulett) who preceded him in death on July 25, 2010.
Robert enlisted in the US Army in 1951. In April of 1952, he was stationed in Korea during the Korean War. On September 29, 1952, Robert was wounded during a bombing, losing his eye and ability to hear. He was a member of the 82nd Battery, 2nd Infantry Division. During his time serving our county, Robert received many awards including; a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Korean War Medal, United Nations Medal and numerous other awards.
While living in Norfolk, Virginia, Robert worked for the U.S. Postal Service where he retired after 30 years. After moving to Kansas City in 2001, he worked as a Public Bus Assistant for the Belton School District, assisting children with disabilities.
Survivors include his daughter, Becky Hulett and fiancé, Kurt Dougherty of Brookfield; one granddaughter, April Knazik and husband, Eric of Moberly; two great-granddaughters, Haylee and Emma Ruth Knazik of Moberly; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Anderson of Kansas City and Louella Hulett of Brookfield; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents; one brother, Richard Anderson; and Aunt Inky also preceded him in death.
A graveside service was held October 24, 2018, at the Missouri State Veteran's Cemetery in Jacksonville with Pastor Charles Littrell officiating.
