Caleb was born on June 25, 1880. He was the son of Armstrong Sebron Gadd, Jr and Matilda Black Gadd. He is listed in an 1880 Rockcastle County, Kentucky census at the age of three months old, so it is assumed that he was born in that county.
He married Louanna Baker Gadd on March 18, 1901.

Caleb occupation was a farmer. He suffered from crippling arthritis which eventually left him bed ridden. When he became unable to care for himself, he went to live with his daughter Jo-Ann Northern. She and her husband Nathan cared for him until his death in 1935. Caleb is buried in the unkept Old Scaffold Cane Cemetery located on the Ed Mullins Farm.
