Sgt. Charles A. Hannaford Co.I. 124th Ill. Inf. (Also listed 103rd /124th Ohio.) Enlisted Aug. 12, 1862. Mustered Sept. 10, 1862. Operations on MS Central RR, various LA, Battle of Thompson's Hill, Port Gibson, Raymond MS, Jackson, Champion's Hill, Siege of Vicksburg being under fire for eighty days, Big Black, regiment awarded ‘Excelsior Prize Banner' by General J.B. McPherson to Gen. Leggett. AK, Meridan Campaign, Benton, New Orleans, Canby's Campaign, Montgomery AL, Vicksburg. Out Aug. 15, 1865. Has served as Justice of the Peace & a Supervisor for Solon where he had given the township its name after his birthplace in Ohio. Listed in Solon Township 1894 Veteran's Census of Michigan. Died Dec. 19, 1907. Listed in Solon Township Cemetery. G.A.R. Post 168.

Also his brother:Sgt. William F. Hannaford Co. D. 103rd OH Inf. Age 24. Mustered Aug. 7, 1862. KY, TN, Monticello, had been reduced to ranks before being pardoned for leaving to see his infant daughter (see Moses Cate story), Atlanta Campaign, Battle of Resaca, Dallas, Pumpkin Vine Creek, Kenesaw & Lost Mt., Decatur, Jonesboro, Hood in AL, Battle of Franklin, Nashville, the Carolinas, Goldsboro, Raliegh, Surrender of Johnston. Out June 12, 1865. Served as first Postmaster for Solon.

Charles Augustus Hannaford (Solon Twp Cem born 26Feb21836 in Solon, Cuyahoga Co, OH) married Helen Sill on 17Nov1857.
 
She was born 25Jul1840 in Avon, Loraine Co, OH & died 15Jul1915 & is buried in the Solon Twp Cemetery.
 
Her second marriage 7Sep1913 was to Evan J East.
 
Charles & Helen are both in Section 2 Lot 32.
