FAGIN Adeline Byers, 79, died August 22, at Mercy Health Center, following a brief illness. Mrs. Fagin, born in Lehigh, Oklahoma, was the daughter of Benjamin and Clara Byers, early settlers in Oklahoma Territory. She was a 1927 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the Unversity of Oklahoma and a long-time educator in the Oklahoma City Public Schools. Her 60 years of active community service include the Presidency of the Sisterhood of Emanuel Synagogue, where her late husband, Max M. Fagin, served as President, following in the footsteps of his father, Louis B. Fagin, and Mrs. Fagin's father, Ben Byers. She has been active in the National Conference of Christians and Jews, Oklahoma County Mental Health Association and the Civic Music Association. In 1961, she was runner-up as Oklahoma Mother of the Year. Mrs. Fagin's late husband, Max M. Fagin, practiced law in Oklahoma City for over 50 years, beginning his career as an Oklahoma County Assistant Attorney. Like his wife, his community service was extensive and included leadership as a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner and directorships of the Oklahoma County Bar Association, Oklahoma City Junior Chamber of Commerce, Oklahoma Chapters of the Zionist Organization of America and B'nai Brith. In 1970, Mr. and Mrs. Fagin were honored by Emanuel Synagogue as the Couple of the Year.

Survived by her children, Arnold D. Fagin and Charles L. Fagin of Oklahoma City, and Sara Ann Fagin of New York City; her grandchildren, Barry S. Fagin of Oakland, California, Daniel R. Fagin of Sarasota, Florida, and Lisa Rae Fagin of Washington, D.C.; sisters, Della Fagin and Rhea Deutsch; and brothers, Paul Byers and Sterling Byers, all of Oklahoma City, and Jerome Byers, deceased.

Memorials may be made to the Endowment Fund, Emanuel Synagogue, 900 NW 47th Street, Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, August 24, at Emanuel Synagogue, 900 NW 47th Street, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with interment at Emanual Hebrew Cemetery. Arrangements directed by Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper.
