Clara Brown Banks Adams Reece, 102, of Lawton, went to rest with her Lord on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, at her home after a short illness, with her daughters by her side.

A private family burial will be held at Walters Cemetery.

Arrangements are under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

Born Sept. 28, 1912, in Holdenville, to Clarence and Roxie Ann Banks, Clara was raised on a farm outside of Tillman County, the second of seven children. Basketball was new to Southwest Oklahoma in the 1920s and Clara loved to play. She had the privilege of attending Oklahoma A&M for one semester after graduating high school. Clara grew up near Kamp Adams and they were married on Oct. 28, 1933. They had two daughters, born in 1935 and 1937. Like most Oklahomans, the Adams' moved West to California, where Clara worked in a factory during World War II. While in California her husband passed away in 1946, and Clara and the girls returned to Oklahoma for family support. Clara worked at a cafÈ in Frederick/Manitou and raised her daughters. Eventually she found her way to near Lubbock, Texas, and was the bookkeeper for a cotton gin. She then was a waitress at the finest restaurant in Lubbock, and was able to buy her own home and car. She often reminded her great-grandchildren that she picked cotton, waited tables and always worked hard.

In 1964, she married James Reece, of Cotton County. They owned small businesses and farmed in Southwest Oklahoma, and raced horses all over the Southwestern United States. Settling in Walters, they lived there until James' death in 2000. For the last 15 years Clara split her time between her daughters' homes in Lawton and Lorenzo, Texas.

Clara was a tough woman. She had to be. She was feisty and sharp as a tack. Clara will forever be MamMaw, our family's definition of a strong woman.

She is preceded in death by husband, Kamp Adams; husband, James Reece; son-in-law, Jerry Robertson; and great-grandson, Kyle Isbel. By marriage Clara was preceded in death by grandson, Brent Parkey; son-in-law, Don Parkey; son, Mike Reece; daughter, Norma Jean Smith; and son, Jimmy Reece.

She is survived by daughter by marriage, Mary Jane Parkey, of Temple; grandchildren: Sheri Parkey, of Temple; Teresa Bararo and Scott, of Woodbine Md.; Carol Smith and husband Stan, of Midland, Texas; Tim Smith and wife Kelly, of LaJola, Calif.; DeLaine Stehle and husband Gayland, Kurt Reece and wife Mary, of Wichita Falls, Texas. There are seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, with one on the way.
