Susan Phoebe Miller was the ninth of thirteen known children of the Rev. Joseph H. Miller (1806-1887) and his first wife, Sarah Sowers (1808-1873), who married 23 Mar 1827 at Davidson County, North Carolina. After Sarah died Joseph remarried twice more, but had no children by his last two wives.

Susan married Alex Pinkney Snyder/Snider (1842-1923) on 21 Nov 1865 at Davidson County, North Carolina. Susan and Alex were the parents of five known children, namely:

1. William S. Snyder (1867–1937)
2. Sarah Augusta Victoria Snyder Clinard (1870–1953)
3. Charles Ezra Snyder (1870–1927)
4. Albert P. Snider (1879–1894)
5. Franklin "Frank" Eugene Snyder (1881–1950)
