Mary was born July 30, 1935 in Kalamazoo, to Howard J. and Ada M. (Haywood) Reno. She enjoyed a very happy childhood on Peeler Street. She received her education in Kalamazoo Public Schools. She was the beloved wife of Richard A. Burton, Sr., to whom she was united in marriage on May 9, 1953. To this union, six wonderful children were born. At the time of her passing, she was a homemaker. She was previously employed by Woodward Elementary School, Meijer’s and Woods Lake School. She was a born-again devout Christian and a member of Temple Baptist Church in Kalamazoo. She was also a member of the Rebecka Missionary Circle.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Richard A. Burton Sr.; loving sons, Richard (Clara) Burton Jr. of Battle Creek, Michigan; Lewis H. Burton of Kalamazoo; and
Michael J. Burton of Michigan; She is also survived by her sister, Bertha (Joseph Barton, Jr.) Cross of Blanchard, Michigan. Others cherishing her memory include grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; special friend, Tina Ford, and a countless number of family and loving friends..
Waiting for her in Heaven are her parents, Howard and Ada Reno; daughter, Elizabeth M. Smith, Annette L. Jackson, and Jeannine Burton Fowler; brother, Howard Reno Jr.; sisters, Elvira Hernandez and Jeanette Anderson, as well as other family members.
She was a very kind, loving compassionate and generous person who loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved her children, family, singing, church, bible reading, gardening, and most of all her devoted husband, Richard. Her love for the Lord remained steadfast and faithful. She will be most remembered for giving enormous love and support to others without ever wanting or expecting anything in return. She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and loyal friend..
