Ferd was the son of John R. Bowdish, Jr. and Emeline Dewey. He married Mary Miller Apr. 30, 1851. Ferd served with the 27th Michigan Infantry in the Civil War. He was captured at Petersburg Aug. 21st 1864. He was at Salisbury prison from Oct. 9, 1864 to Mar. 10, 1865. He died in 1867 of digestive problems which can be traced to his interment at Salisbury. He served as Justice of the Peace in Ingham County after the war and was a farmer and a Mason.
