THOMAS ALEXANDER VAN NESS

Thomas Alexander Van Ness, 50, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away Friday October 12th, 2018.

He was born December 21st, 1967 to James and Glenda Van Ness of Shallowater, Texas who have both preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are his maternal grandparents, W.E. “Buster” and Mary Fowler of Clyde, Texas and paternal grandparents, John and Kathleen “Jimmy” Selman of Snyder, Texas.

Thomas grew up in Shallowater and graduated from Shallowater High School in 1986. He met Valerie Van Vranken, daughter of Thomas and Jeanie Van Vranken, in 1995 and they were married August 2nd, 1997 in Midland, Texas. Thomas and Valerie have resided in Oklahoma City since 2007.

As a devout convert to Catholicism, he was a member of St. Damien of Molokai Catholic Church in Edmond, Oklahoma.

His family will always remember Thomas as a loving husband, father and spiritual leader. He was also an admirable brother who showed continual commitment and support to his sisters and their families.

He will be remembered by his friends and business acquaintances as a man of integrity who always approached every situation with honesty and strong moral ethics. His incredible sense of humor drew people close to him and made everyone laugh, feel at ease and totally accepted. All that knew him will be left with happy memories.

Thomas is survived by his wife Valerie of 21 years; sons: Gabriel, Isaac, and Michael; daughters: Grace, Ash Marie, Sara, Emelia, Mary Nell, Cecelia and Magdalene.

He is also survived by sisters: Melva Brown of Oklahoma City and her children: Holly and Brandon Gayhart of San Antonio, Texas, Brian Brown of Richmond, Virginia, and Nathan Brown of Oklahoma City; Debi Dirickson and spouse Keith Riddle of Yukon, Oklahoma and her children Megan Waller of Edinburgh, Scotland and Melanie Waller of Oklahoma City.

A Wake Service will be held Tuesday, October 16th at 6:30 p.m. at Yanda & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 1500 W. Vandament Avenue, Yukon, Oklahoma.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated for Thomas at 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 17th at St. Monica Catholic Church, 2001 N. Western Avenue, Edmond, Oklahoma, followed by burial at St. Patrick Cemetery adjacent to St. Damien Catholic Church, 8455 N.W. 234th St., Edmond OK.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Damien Catholic Church Building Fund, 8455 N.W. 234th St., Edmond, OK 73025 or Centennial Hospice, 4003 Quail Springs Pkwy, Suite A, Oklahoma City, OK 73134.
