On Sunday, October 14, 2018, Reta DeeAnne Clark Whetten, our beloved 81-year-old mother, passed away peacefully at her home in Ammon, Idaho. She was surrounded by loving family. DeeAnne had fought and won a first round of cancer; then upon its return, she courageously chose to move forward in her journey toward eternal life with God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.

DeeAnne was born on April 28, 1937, in Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Reta Jane Brown Clark and Bryant Randall Clark. The fourth of six children, she graduated from the Juarez Stake Academy on May 25, 1955. One week later, on June 1, 1955, she married her handsome sweetheart, Othello Jean Whetten, in the Salt Lake Temple in Utah.

Jean and DeeAnne’s adventures together spanned over 63 years and brought them ten children: four daughters and six sons. They enjoyed living in Mexico, Utah, Texas, Chile, Panama, and Idaho.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, DeeAnne served wholeheartedly in the Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society organizations. She also devoted her life to extensive family history and temple work. She and Jean supported seven children on missions for the Church, and served four missions as a senior couple. They were privileged to serve as temple workers in several temples of the Church.

Throughout her life, DeeAnne loved the outdoors and taught her family to love the beauties of nature. She loved camping and going into the local countryside for a cookout. She enjoyed the scenery and local attractions of whatever area Jean’s job or their mission assignments took them. She also loved dancing (before suffering a severe ankle injury), reading, following BYU sports, and watching the Lawrence Welk show on Saturday evenings.

The homemaking skills that DeeAnne had learned from her mother blessed her family as she enjoyed growing a garden, canning, sewing, and quilting. An avid reader, she read the standard works completely several times and regularly feasted from the Ensign–cover to cover. DeeAnne kept in touch through phone calls to friends and social media connections with her growing family.

In 2016 Jean passed away peacefully at his home in Ammon after DeeAnne had served him devotedly for seven years following his massive stroke. After becoming widowed, DeeAnne courageously and enthusiastically moved forward, participating with the "Domino Ladies" on Monday nights and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

DeeAnne has been an energetic, loving mother and grandma serving her family her entire life since she was married one week out of high school. Her posterity indeed rise up to call her Blessed.

DeeAnne was preceded in death by her father, Bryant Randall Clark; her mother, Reta Jane Brown Clark; a sister, Barbra Alice Clark; a brother, Bryant Brown Clark; and her husband, Othello Jean Whetten.

DeeAnne is survived by her sister, Carol (Mac) Call of Farmington, UT; her brother J. Randall (Lizde) Clark of Colonia Juarez, Mexico; her brother Lorell (Millie) Clark of Tucson, AZ; and her children: Jeana Whetten of Jacksonville, FL; Clark (Cori) Whetten of St. George, UT; Curtis (Michelle) Whetten of Suwanee, GA; Julianne (Bruce) Williams of Goodyear, AZ; Lorena (Bruce) Holmstead of Middleton, ID; Cedric Whetten of Marietta,GA; Angelina (Rodney) Farnes of Ammon, ID; Conal (Monique) Whetten of El Paso, TX; Christopher (Elena) Whetten of Willcox, AZ; Craig (Jenette) Whetten of Rexburg, ID. DeeAnne is also survived by 36 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2018, at the Ammon 2nd Ward, 1100 Tiebreaker Drive, with Bishop Lounsbury officiating. The family will visit with friends from 9-10:30 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018, in the Charleston Cemetery in Charleston, Utah.
