Daughter of William Watson and Elizabeth Ashburn, she came to Indiana after the Civil War. She was married twice:

1. James Knox Polk Franklin, July 29, 1865, Morgan Co., Indiana
One daughter, Lillian (Franklin) Carter Harlan Nydegger, 1866-1944; one son, Samuel, b. 1869.

2. Doctor Wilson Coots, Dec. 29, 1875, Bartholomew Co., Indiana
Three known children:
Melvina "Vinnie" May (Coots) Ferguson Howard, 1876-after 1945
Jessie Lynn Coots, b. 1879
Calpha Helena (Coots) Hege, 1883-1913

From "Hope Area Families," (1985) Mildred Dixon Harrod:
"She [Diana] could tell many interesting stories of Civil War days in the South. At one time she did a great service for the Union by riding through the night with important dispatches concealed in her hair. She never received any recompense for this service because of lack of any accurate knowledge of the names of the officers whom she had served."
