Professional Wrestler. He was nicknamed the "The Mormon Giant" since he was 6' 6" tall and was raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah. He was also known as "Sonny Jonathan" since his father, also a professional wrestler, was known as "Brother Jonathan." Other names he wrestled under were Cyrus Jonathon, El Diablo, and Mighty Loco. After graduating high school in Cedar City, Utah, he joined the United States Navy. His basic training was at Treasure Island in San Francisco, California. He played football in high school and in the Navy. After the Navy, he had a career in commercial deep-sea diving. He joined his father as a tag team partner in professional wrestling before going solo. He moved to Canada in the 1960s. He won 45 titles in his career, which spanned from 1950 to 1980. In 1978, he appeared in the film " Paradise Alley" as a wrestler. He was known for his Spinning Full Nelson Slam, his finishing move. In his final match, he was teamed with André the Giant and Roddy Piper. His career ended with 1,583 wins and 886 losses against 729 opponents. He had competed with 223 different wrestlers all over the world, including Japan, South Africa, and Canada. In 1996, he was inducted into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame. On May 20, 2006, he was inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in New York.
