She was beaten by Turner Clark in a conspiracy with John Collins, Reuben Clark, John Clark and William "Bill" Hood on 24 Feb 1852. Her husband was killed in the attack, but she was found barely alive the next morning. She died 2 days later. John Collins, who planned it but wasn't present for the murder, Turner Clark, 19, and Reuben Clark, 27, were sentenced to death by hanging. John Clark and Bill Hood were given life sentences, but later released for the Civil War.
