Eva Ashby Roberts Dies In Duchesne

Eva Clark Roberts, 83, died in the Duchesne County Hospital September 28, 1982.

Mrs. Roberts was born October 8, 1898 in Blackwood, Virginia to William Lloyd and Delia Thacker Clark. She married Seth McConkie in May of 1917 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died during World Ward I in France, July 24, 1918.

She married Alma Curtis Ashby September 6, 1922 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died October 26, 1942. February 8, 1963 she married Melvin Henry Roberts at Duchesne, Utah. He died June 20, 1973.

She was a homemaker, member of Maeser 1st Ward and served an LDS mission to St. Louis, Missouri.

A son, Keith Markham Ashby, preceded her in death.

Survivors are two sons and two daughters, Ralph H. Ashby of Ogden; Donald L. Ashby of Vernal; Mrs. Barbara Bingham of Cedar City and Mrs. James E. (Norma) Marshall of Vernal; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Carl (Mary) Jacobe of Salt Lake City.

Funeral services were Friday, October 1, in the Maeser Stake Center, Ralph Ashby gave the family prayer, Bishop Ronald Robb conducted the service. Glade and Elizabeth Sowards sang "Via Con Dios."

Lee Murray gave the invocation. Dorothy Peltier sang "Lay My Head Beneath a Rose," accompanied by Melba Eaton, Harvey McKee spoke. Glade and Elizabeth Sowards sang, "Take Me Home Again Kathleen," accompanied by Pat Jensen. Lorin Merkley gave the benediction. Prelude and postlude music was by Melba Eaton.

George McConkie dedicated the grave. Burial was in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Rick Ashby, Troy Ashby, John Bingham, Michael Ashby, Darren Ashby and David Marshall.

Eva Clark Ashby was born to Delia Thacker and William Lloyd Clark. Eva married first Moroni Seth McConkie June 26, 1970.

Eva married second Alma "Curtis" Ashby on September 6, 1922 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had five children.

Eva was a professional candy maker and sold them from her home. She made an exceptionally delicious and creamy caramel log roll. She shared the secret recipe with Elsie Henry Ashby with the agreement she could not tell a soul. Elsie took her secret to the grave.
