RAYMOND V. RITCHOTTE - CONCORD, VT -- Ray Ritchotte, 80, passed away on March 16, 2017, at home with family.
Ray was born April 8, 1936 and grew up on Sergeant St. in Allenstown, New Hampshire where he attended St. Jean the Baptist School. (Now, Bishop Brady)
A True Patriot and a selfless servant, Ray began his career in 1954, enlisting in the active U. S. Air Force and in Reserves. A few years later he married his beautiful wife, Lucille Plourde. In 1973, Ray and Lucille moved from Suncook to Bethlehem to raise their family. He began working for the State of NH in Littleton at Employment Security as a Veterans Counselor, he retired from the state after 20 years. In 1973, he joined the New Hampshire Army National Guard, where he held several MOS's, including recruiter for National Guard. During this time, he met many locals and became heavily involved with veterans' organizations. Also, heavily involved with his community he was part of the Bethlehem all volunteer Fire Department and served on the Profile High School Board for many years.
Ray's passion was as a historian for War's and he was and was well read on all wars and conflicts. After 33 years he retired from the State of NH and the NH National Guard. He continued to volunteer his time with Veterans and volunteered with The Disabled American Veterans. Ray headed up NH VA's first fleet of vehicles, to enable Veterans to get to appointments at the VA. He worked hard and helped raise funds to acquiring vehicles for an all-volunteer transportation unit at the Manchester Veterans Affairs, he also was involved with and the NH Veterans Foundation.
Ray was nominated into the National Order of Trench Rats for his selfless service to veterans, and was especially proud in establishing a dignified location where eligible veterans would properly be laid to rest, the N.H. State Veterans Cemetery, where he will also rest with his fellow veterans in peace.
Ray is pre-deceased by his parents Albert and Evelyn Ritchotte, his first wife Lucille (Plourde) Ritchotte, infant daughter Maureen Ritchotte, his brother Paul Ritchotte and his second wife Beverly (Johnson) Ritchotte.
He is survived by four children Colleen Champagne of Bethlehem, NH, Thomas Ritchotte of Littleton, NH, Matthew Ritchotte of Concord, VT, Sarah Ezell of Virginia Beach, VA as well as four grandchildren, Karah Morehouse, Kestyn Ritchotte, Reagan Garland, and Lucille Ritchotte-Ezell and two great-grandchildren, Bryce Johnson and Keagon Morehouse.
In lieu of flowers the family request that consideration donations in his name to New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery Association, Inc. Memorial service held 14 June, 2017 in The New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, New Hampshire.
