HICKORY - Roy Donald Hoffman Sr., 82, of Sixteenth Street NE, died Monday Jan. 3,
2005, at Catawba Valley Medical Center after six months of declining health. Born
June 25, 1922, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late William L. and Jettie
Speagle Huffman.

A member of Viewmont Baptist Church, where he was an usher, deacon and Sunday
school teacher, he was a supervisor for the water and sewer department for the city
of Hickory for many years, town administrator for 21 years for Long View and presi-
dent of the St. Stephens High School Boosters from 1969 to 1979. He was a lifetime
member of American Legion Post 48 and a charter VIP club member of the Lions
Club of West Hickory,

He was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Mull Howlett.

Survivors include his wife of 57 Years, Edna Rodgers Hoffman of the home; a daughter,
Dawn Hoffman Lail and husband, Dean, of Hickory; a son, Roy D. Hoffman Jr. and wife,
Nancy, of Conover; three grandsons, Roy Hoffman III of Belmont, Adam Hoffman of
Conover and Dillon Lail of Hickory; and a brother, Hugh D. Huffman of Hickory.

The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Albert Young at 1 p.m. Thursday at Viewmont
Baptist Church. Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park, with military graveside rites
conducted by American Legion Post 48.

The family will be at Hickory Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday
