Richard was born on October 24, 1946 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Bernadine (Dungan) Ackerman. Rich attended school in Waterloo, graduating from East High School.
On June 15, 1968, Rich was united in marriage to Kathy Koepke in Waterloo. The couple made their home in Denver, Iowa.
Rich worked for John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo, retiring in 1992. He also worked for Carquest until they closed and was currently working at Jerry Roling Motors in Waverly.
Rich loved spending time with family and friends. He also liked going to the races, horse showing, coon hunting, camping, fishing and listening to his Elvis Cd’s. He also gave each grandchild and great grandchild a nickname.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Ackerman of Denver, Iowa; his four children, Tammy (Tully) Beeghly of Conrad, Iowa, Todd (Lisa) Ackerman of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Teresa (Ted) Krueger of Johnston, Iowa, Travis (Jen) Ackerman of Readlyn, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Ashley (Kevin) Knight, Austin (Brittany) Swanson, Amanda (Justin) Engehardt, Alexandra (Stephen) Graham, Alley Swanson, Emma Beeghly, Brittany Schmitt, Erika, Luka and Gavin Ackerman, Hunter, Chase and Kali Ackerman; 13 great grandchildren; two sisters, Janet (Wendell) Huffman and MaryAnn McCambridge both of Minnesota; his mother-in-law, Alvina Koepke, brothers-in-law, Ronnie (Elaine) Koepke and Jodie Koepke.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jane Ann Stoneburner; niece, Tracy Huffman, father-in-law, Glenn Koepke, son-in-law, Marshall Swanson, niece, Megan Koepke and paternal and maternal grandparents.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver. Celebration of Life Services will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver, with Pastor Charis Combs-Lay officiating. Burial will be held in St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver.
Memorials may be directed to the Ackerman family, where a memorial direction will be established later.
