Garland attended school in Jamesville, NC and Edward Military Institute. He graduated from Jamesville High School in 1948.
He was in the US Navy and US Army. Garland was stationed in Norfolk; Ft. Jackson, SC; Ft. Lewis, WA; Guam, and Ft. Sheridan, IL, where he met his soon to be wonderful wife of 59 years, Dorothy Moore.
After service he attended DeVry Tech in Chicago, IL and graduated with a first class FCC License. He began working at Carolina Telephone and Telegraph. Garland worked 40 years in wholesale electronics. He was part owner of the Nearly Shoppe in Kinston, NC. Garland also worked at Auto Supply Company and Carwerks.
Garland is survived by daughter, Virginia (Ginnie) Williams and special friend, Marty Baker; son, David Anderson, and wife, Kecia; granddaughter, Dana Williams; grandsons, Matthew Williams and Jared Petterson; and by many special cousins, nieces, and good friends.
Garland is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, Garland M. Anderson Sr. and Carrie L. Sexton Anderson, and brother Bobby.
Garland's wishes were to be cremated and a memorial service will be held October 13th from 4 pm to 6 pm at the home of Garland Anderson, 116 Azalea Drive, Greenville, NC 27858. As published in The Daily Reflector
