Founder of the now extinct town of Baldwin. He had the town platted out in 1890.

Timothy Baldwin, a worthy farmer of Jackson township, was born in Summit county, Ohio September 13, 1838. His grandparents were natives of Connecticut, and parents of Ohio; the father died in 1855 but the mother survives at the age of eighty-two years. In 1861, Mr. Baldwin came to Jackson township and settled where he now resides. Mr. Baldwin has followed farming and the mercantile business, except during the period of the Civil War, when he served gallantly in defense of his country. He enlisted in April 1861, in the Nineteenth Ohio and reenlisted in February 1865 in the One Hundred and Fifty Second Indiana serving in the Shenandoah Valley, and being discharged September 4, 1865. He is a member of John Stabler post, G.A.R., and is prominent in his township, having been elected justice of the peace for three successive terms. Mr. Baldwin was married March 30, 1862 to Phoebe E. Ball, the first white child born in Jackson township. Her father was a native of Virginia and her mother of New Jersey.

Esquire T. Baldwin, informs us that it is quite probable that he will move from his farm in Jackson township, upon which he has resided for over thirty years, next week to his farm recently purchased in the eastern part of Ohio. We regret to hear that such is his intention as he is one of the leading and most energetic citizens of Jackson township and of the city of Baldwin.

Louis Roy, the hustling trustee of Jackson township, made a business trip and visited with friends and acquaintences at various points in the northern part of Michigan last week. His main mission was to negotiate and purchased, which he accomplished - an acre of land of Timothy Baldwin, formerly a citizen of Baldwin, and who still owns a tract of land in that section. The purchase was made by Trustee Roy with a view of erecting a new and handsome school building for Baldwin the coming summer. Since assuming the duties as trustee of Jackson township, Mr. Roy has gained the confidence and admiration of the citizens of that township and is predicted that he is going to make an officer equal to any they have ever had.
