On Thursday, October 4, 2018, Betty J. Davis, age 84, passed away at the Josie Harper Hospice surrounded by family.
Betty was born on January 23, 1934, in Council Bluffs, to Leonard and Alice (Lykke) Ellsworth. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1952, and went on to receive a Journalism degree from the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO).
She began her career at UNO as Executive Director of the Alumni Association and Assistant Dean of Women. She left this position to raise a family, but continued to serve on boards of many community organizations. In later years, she returned to serve in director positions at the Omaha Community Playhouse, the Western Heritage Museum and the Douglas County Historical Society until her retirement in 2012. An accredited public relations professional, she introduced conversational history programs while at the Douglas County Historical Society. In addition, she served two month-long missions in the Philippines and founded the National Association of Soda Jerks. Her passion and wide-range of contributions have been recognized with numerous honors and appreciated by many within the community.
Betty's love, wit and charm will be sadly missed by her daughters, Kim Davis, of Lincoln, Neb., and Tanya (Tony) Weyers, of Belgium; her grandson, Joseph Robertson, of Lincoln; granddaughters, Carolynn Davis and Erica (Thomas Byrd) Davis, of Holts Summit, Mo.; great grandchildren, Ariannah, Josef, Mallory and Oliver; and brother, Doug Ellsworth, of Omaha, Neb.

Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2018, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. A reception will be held at St. Paul's after the interment. In honor of Betty, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the American Cancer Society or the CHI Health Foundation - Language Services.
