"Toby Patterson taught 7th grade English at Bowie Junior High School in Odessa, Texas, for a very long time. She was also the President of the National Junior Honor Society, both for Bowie and for ECISD. She was a very strict, tough teacher and a "stickler" for all details, including definitions, handwriting, and learning basic English skills. We had to learn hundreds of lines of poetry by memory. Although many students tried unsuccessfully to get away with not doing homework, she stuck to her requirements and, in retrospect, was absolutely one of the best teachers I ever had!

She had short white hair that was always well kept and (in the early 1960s) always wore a plaid, pleated skirt. She was tall and slender." -- Dee Ann Donham Wooldridge Barton
