William “Big Bill” Austin, age 65, of Russellville died Monday, September 3, 2018, at Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock. He was born September 10, 1952, to Ronal and Mary Kendrick Austin.

He lived his entire life in the Pleasant View Community, north of Russellville.

Bill spent his life doing what he loved whether it be rodeo, coon hunting, deer hunting, turkey hunting, chasing coon dogs or enjoying life at his beloved Rosetta Cabin. He was a lifetime member of London Masonic Lodge #339, former president of Professional Kennel Club Arkansas Chapter, member of Arkansas Rodeo Association and United States Team Ropers Association. He was an avid supporter of the Dover Pirates Football and Baseball team. He always talked about Browning A5’s.

He retired from Millwrights Local 216, a job that allowed him to travel the U.S. and tell the world his stories. He is recognized at Arkansas Children’s Hospital for organizing a coon hunt that raised $10,000.00 for their therapy animal program.

He loved God above all and wanted you to know it.

A friend once said of him, when you met Bill, you had really met a special man.

He was loved beyond measure for his big heart and love of life.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Frank and Shirley Greathouse and an infant daughter, Billie Jo.

Survivors include his wife, Patty Greathouse Austin; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Sherri Austin of Diamond, Missouri; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Frank Wesley of Dardanelle; his grandchildren, Morgan Wesley, Katelyn and Haylee Austin and Landon and Eli O’Bryant; brother and sister-in-law, James and Susan Austin of Jay, Maine and their children, Adam, Seth and Laura; his special friends, Josh and Melissa Renfroe and their children, Joshlyn, Lakin and Hayden; and many other friends.

A visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 6, 2018, at Harmony Freewill Baptist Church, 3580 State Rd. 124, Russellville, Arkansas 72801.

Burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Arkansas State Youth Coon Hunt, 207 McDougall Lane, Russellville Arkansas 72802.
