Mr. Harvey Kowalke of Port Washington passed away early Thursday morning, October 4, 2018, at Cedar Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center in West Bend. He was 95 years old.
Harvey was born in Milwaukee on October 19, 1922, son of George and Elsie Froeburg Kowalke. He attended local schools and graduated from North Division High School, Class of 1940. He proudly served in the US Army during World War II in the European and African Theatres of operation, where he earned the rank of sergeant. On December 20, 1947, Harvey was united in marriage with Jo Anne O’Brien in Rhinelander. The couple settled in the southern part of Wisconsin, moving to Port Washington in 1955 where they raised their four daughters.
Harvey worked as a press operator at Milsco Manufacturing in Brown Deer, retiring in 1992 after 50 years on the job. He enjoyed bowling, golf, and bargain hunting. Harvey was an avid sports fan and liked a good game of cards (particularly cribbage and sheepshead), as well as dancing with his lovely wife. He was a great “Mr. Fix It”. Above all, he was an amazing husband, father and grandfather - “Papa”. Jo preceded him in death in 2015.
Mr. Kowalke is survived by four daughters: Cynthia (Herb) Leiting of Madison, Debbi (Greg) Verheyen of Port Washington, Beth (Dennis) Baier of Monrovia, CA and Amy (Bruce) Kowalke-Laabs of Fredonia. He is further survived by 12 grandchildren: Timothy, Christopher, Michelle, Katie, Jason and Brian Verheyen, Michael, David and John Baier, Justin, Amanda and Alyssa Laabs, 15 great-grandchildren; Anna, Madie, Nathan, Caleb, Kalin, Kylee, Mia, Gavin, Savannah, Alexis, Brady, Colton, Emerson, Brynn, and Raelynn, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
