Born Dec. 15, 1954, in Johnstown, he was a son of Elizabeth Larison Hysong and Donald F. Hysong, Johnstown.
He worked on the railroad as a conductor - first Conrail which later became Norfolk Southern.
During Don's childhood, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America. He also loved rock music; as a musician he played keyboard and clarinet. Don enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He graduated from Hollidaysburg Area High School in 1972 and then attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania
Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife of almost 39 years, Christine Palina; two children, Zachary, Frackville, and Angela, Orwigsburg; his sister, Pam Hysong, New Florence; and brothers-in-law, Tony and Charlie. Don and Tina both came from large and loving families, so there are many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Scripture services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday from the Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc., 40 N. Jardin St., Shenandoah, with Monsignor Ronald Bocian officiating, and then continued at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Kenneth Stuart Funeral Home, 139 N. Ligonier St., New Florence, PA 15944, officiated by the Rev. Nancy L. Threadgill. Interment will take place on Wednesday in Bethel Cemetery, Clyde, Pa. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday in Shenandoah at Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc. and then from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday in New Florence at the Kenneth Stuart Funeral Home. Contributions may be made in Donald's name to the American Cancer Society. Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc. has been entrusted with the arrangements.
