JOHN AUSTIN RICHESON was the only son of ALICE MAY BRAZIER and AUSTIN BRESNEN RICHESON of Portland, OR. He had an older half-sister THELMA CLAUDIA BENTLEY ALDEN and an older sister MARY RICHESON ANDERSON.

JOHN left the engineering school at the Oregon State University [University of Oregon] after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and served in WW II as a TEC 3 (Sgt.) in the U.S. Army. He was trained at Camp Kohler near Sacramento, CA and stationed in the Philippine Islands, working and teaching cryptography with the Signal Corp.

The National Archives have no compiled service record for him despite his service in the Army (Pacific theater) from 1942 to 1946. They do have his dates of induction and discharge. Presumably his records are among those lost in the St. Louis fire.

Prior to entering the Army he attended college at the University of Oregon as an engineering major. After WW II he returned to the University of Oregon to finish a business degree and worked in the insurance business.

He married in 1948 and had three daughters. He and his first wife divorced in 1964. He married soon after and divorced again around five years later, and married for the last time in the 1980's.
