James Andrews went home to Heaven on October 1, 2018 after a lengthy illness, attended by family and friends. James Vernon "Murl" Andrews was born on May 10, 1939 in Coke County, Texas to Pearlie Mae and Richard Murl Andrews. He was the youngest of three children and grew up in various towns in Coke County before finally settling in Bronte.
He graduated Bronte High School and attended Texas Tech University. James later joined the crews at Concho Valley Electric Cooperative in San Angelo, Texas, where his first job was as a meter reader. He worked his way up to Engineering Superintendent in a career that span just over 35 years. He retired in 2001 to his new home outside Robert Lee, Texas. While working for the Co-op, he met his bride to be Judith Bruce in San Angelo. They were married on December 23, 1969 and lived in San Angelo. After moving to the community of Grape Creek, their only child, Richard Joseph Andrews, was born on September 26, 1972.
James enjoyed a full life that including traveling, hunting, fishing, and camping and working at their ranch. He loved being with family and friends.
James is survived by his wife, Judie Andrews of Robert Lee. His son Richard Andrews, wife Kristy and two grand children Colter Reed and Kyleigh Blair Andrews of Ballinger, Texas. His brother Richard Don Andrews of Del Rio, Texas. His sister Tricia DuBois and husband Doug of Austin, Texas, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Pearlie Mae Andrews.
He was the best. A kind heart, full of wisdom and compassion. He was a dear friend and a wonderful father, husband, and grandfather. He taught us many life lessons, laughed a lot, cried when he needed to, and loved openly. He will be missed. We love you Popper. Until we meet again.
Visitation will be held all day Wednesday, October 3, 2018, with family present from 6:00 to 7:30pm. Graveside Services will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Paint Creek Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
