Mrs. Bertha B. Putney - Bertha Bond Putney, wife of the late Fred A. Putney, and former member of the Pease Memorial Library staff, died early yesterday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert J. Fenstermaker of 122 Franklin Walk, Falls Church, Va.

Mrs. Putney had been in falling health for same time, and had retired on June 15, 1950, after nearly 23 years of service as cataloger for the Ridgewood Library. Burial services will take place in the family plot in Charleston, Ill.

Following her retirement last summer Mrs. Putney went to Burlington, Vermont, hoping to enjoy the summer there, but her condition did not improve and she went to Albuerque, New Mexico, seeking to regain her health. In February she returned eat and had been with her daughter until her death. She had suffered serious injuries in an automobile accident some years ago from which she never entirely recovered.

Mrs. Putney was a graduate of the University of Illoinois Library School and served as a member of the staff of the University Library. She came to Ridgewood in September, 1927, from Urbana, III., where she was the librarian of the Urbana Public Library.

During her long term of exceptional service as cataloger in Ridgewood she made many loyal friends both among her immediate associates and those who visited the library. Her retirement was marked by a testimonial dinner given in her honor by the Pease trustees and staff.

Surviving are her daughter, Ellen (Mrs. Robert J.) Fenstermaker; a grandson, Fred, and a sister, Mrs. Augusta Smith of Nyack, N. Y.
