Robert Williamson was born in Mount Gambia in South Australia. He was a very healthy and outgoing boy who used to swim across the bottomless blue lakes near his home. He liked fishing hunting rabbits running and loved his pets especially his dog.He had a wondeful singing voice. He had the opportunity to be in the chorus for one of Dame Melba s concerts but unable to back up the family legend with any evidence. He was also a natural musician who could play piano, trumpet, guitar, bagpipes, and the flute all by ear. he was one of those people that said "if someone else can do it I can too" Pop had a normal childhood but he left home at the age of 15 and sought to earn his fortune by becoming a rouse about and working in the shearing sheds from victoria all the way to Queensland and even New Zealand but cant find the evidence for New Zealand. Pop was very intelligent and became a shearers union delegate and also learned as much as he could about negotiations and reading contracts. He was a very well known young man around the shearing sheds and became a "ringer" some one who could shear two hundred sheep per day over many weeks. He was also a bit of a bookie who took bets and sorted out shearing shed brawls by his tongue or his fists. He worked as a tent bare knuckle fighter and also a stockman at times.
He was a house painter in Sydney after travelling around the country and joined up to fight in the first world war.
Thank you to miss midnight for putting flowers on your grave.Much appreciated
