Wong Lin Ong left this earth October 11, 2004 peacefully at home with her devoted children at her side.

Lin Ong, aka Mrs. Wing, wife of the late Mr. Wing Ong, recently celebrated her 100th Chinese birthday with all of her eight living children, 19 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ong was born in Kwangtung, China on June 1, 1906 and came to Albuquerque as a young bride in 1929. She raised nine children and operated a grocery store in the Barelas Neighborhood where she learned to speak Spanish and English.

Her customers loved and respected her for her kindness and trust to whom she extended credit. Mrs. Ong closed her store in 1970, moved to Southeast Albuquerque and helped daughter Jane Baker operate the Tiki Kai Polynesian Lounge.

Mrs. Ong, as family matriarch, held ownership in several businesses including the former New Chinatown Restaurant and several apartment buildings. Mrs. Ong was a recipient in 1998 of the New Mexico BUDDY Awards honoring women who raise successful daughters and families from culturally diverse backgrounds.

She was a lifelong member of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance. Lin Ong is survived by her four sons, David & wife Mary Sue, Kim, Richard & wife Dava, and Randy; four daughters, Jennie Jew, Mou Kiet Ong, Jane & husband Freddie Baker, and Tane Chan; nineteen grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Mrs. Ong was predeceased by daughter Anna Mae Doon.

Pallbearers will be Kim Jew, Timothy Ong, Benjamin Stephens, Matthew Foote, Mark Chan, and Tyler Ong. Honorary Pallbearers will be Daniel Ong, Stanley Jew, Kenneth Woo, Terry Wong, and Douglas Wong.
