Henry A. Badgett, 80, of Asheville, died Sunday, October 16, 2005, at a local health care facility. A native of Mount Airy, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Henry Alfred and Virginia Hodges Badgett.

Mr. Badgett served in the 397th Infantry Regiment of the 100th Army Division and HQ - European Theater of Operations during World War II. He earned the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, and the European - African - Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. In 1948, Mr. Badgett graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce.

Mr. Badgett was a former member of the vestry of Trinity Episcopal Church in Asheville and of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem, NC. He served on the Board of Visitors of Kanuga Conferences in Hendersonville and on the Board of Directors of the Asheville Day Nursery and the Urban Trail in Asheville and the Old Hickory Council of Boy Scouts and Junior Achievement in Winston-Salem. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta and the Civitans.

He was employed as the Director of Marketing for Youngblood Trucking Lines and Assistant General Sales Manager of McLean Trucking Company.

He is survived by three sons, Henry A. Badgett, III and his wife, Denise, of Concord, NC; Edward Mitchell Badgett of Columbia, SC; and Dr. Robert Gwathmey Badgett and his wife, Dr. Debbie Hunt, of San Antonio, TX; four grandchildren, Taylor and Amelia Badgett of San Antonio, TX, and Samantha and Emily Badgett of Concord; cousins, Van Daniel and his wife Carolyn, Mack Daniel, and Van Barringer; several nieces and nephews; his former wife, Ann Gwathmey Badgett; and former brothers-in-law, Robert F. Chapman and Edward M. Gwathmey, Jr.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Badgett was preceded in death by his step-father, Roy C. Mitchell; and by a sister, Ann Lee Badgett.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2005, at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Thomas Hughes officiating.
