Name.
In his father's will (1805), his marriage bond (1827), and some other early records in Virginia, his name is given as Archibald Bolling Baugh. In his mother's will (1816), it is given as Bowling Baugh. His first name is given as Archer a couple of times. In some early and in later records his name is given as Archibald B. or as A. B. He is sometimes referred to as Boland or Bolen which appears to be the name by which he was often called as evidenced by his mother's will. Later generations used the spelling Boland or Bolen as a middle name when apparently being named after him.
Parents.
He was the son of John Baugh, Sr., and Ann Eggleston.
Date of birth.
No record of his date of birth has been found. His year of birth is estimated from his age as given in records. His mother first paid tax on him (males 16 and older) in 1809, which indicates that he had turned 16, and continued paying until 1813. Then he began paying in 1814 which would indicate he was 21. In the census records his age is given as 58 in 1850, 67 in 1860, and 78 in 1870. Therefore he was probably born in 1792.
Date of death.
No record of his date of death has been found. According to an 1888 biography of his son William E., Archibald died at the age of 84, which indicates he probably died about 1876.
Marriage.
He married Caroline E. Wash. The bond was dated 5 Feb 1827, Powhatan Co., Virginia. The Richmond Enquirer, 22 Feb 1827, reported they were married 14 Feb 1827, by Rev. Edward Baptist, and all were of Powhatan Co. At that time Rev. Edward Baptist was the pastor of the Powhatan Baptist Church. The family Bible record quoted in son William E. Baugh's Civil War pension records says they were married 16 Feb. 1827 in Richmond, Virginia.
