Albert J. Allmen, of The Villages, FL, was born in Royal Oak, Michigan, and passed away on September 24, 2018 at the age of 80.

Al and Charlene met in Ferndale High School, raised their family in the Detroit suburb of Allen Park and later relocated to Ann Arbor, MI. Summer vacations were often spent in Northern Michigan. After the kids graduated from college, Al and Charlene began exploring the world, visiting many places including the Taj Mahal in India and the pyramids of Egypt.

Al spent much of his adult life at Wayne State University, first as a student and then as a librarian and part-time faculty. He earned two Master’s degrees and loved to be around books.

In 2001, Al and Charlene moved to The Villages, coming to play golf, continue their wine tasting adventures, and find a new church to engage with. They immediately felt at home.

He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Charlene Jarman Allmen, daughter Cynthia Bean, her husband Kerry Bean, son Mark Allmen and his wife Carol Chapman, and grandsons Jeremiah Bean and his wife Morgan Bean, and Joshua Bean.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 10 a.m. at New Covenant United Methodist Church, 3470 Woodbridge Drive, The Villages. Following the service there will a brief committal service in the columbarium and then gathering for snacks and fellowship.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to New Covenant’s Endowment Fund or a charity of your choice.
