Robert C. McCune, 88, of Beaver, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, in the Passavant Retirement Center, Zelienople. Born Oct. 25, 1918, in Rochester, a son of the late Ben C. and Anna Marie Anderson McCune, he was a retired teacher with the New Brighton Junior and Senior High School. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Rochester, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. A 1936 graduate of Rochester High School, he received his B.S. degree in Education in 1940 and his master's degree in Education in 1950 from Duquesne University. He received a certificate as a reading specialist in 1983 from Duquesne University and was a member of the Adult Literacy Action program in Beaver. He was an instructor of reading with Geneva College, the Community College of Beaver County and Kent State University.


Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Mary Catherine "Polly" (Poucher) McCune; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert C. and Beverly McCune, West Bloomfield, Mich., and James D. and Barbara McCune, Center Township; three grandsons, Michael McCune, Oak Park, Mich., and Christopher and Jason McCune, both of San Francisco, Calif.; four granddaughters, Jennifer Osselborn, Rochester; Becky Baker, Ambridge; Jessie Jones, Monaca, and Darby Hupp, Pulaski Township; a great-grandson, Austin Hupp, Pulaski Township, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Stout, and five brothers, Samuel, Ben, Glenn, Harry and George McCune.

Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the WILLIAM MURPHY FUNERAL HOME INC., 349 Adams St., Rochester. Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, Rochester, with his pastor, the Rev. Frank Garlathy, officiating.

Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Daugherty Township.

The family wishes memorial contributions be made, if desired, to the Beaver Memorial Library, College Avenue, Beaver, Pa. 15009.

The Beaver County Special Unit will meet at 11:15 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Jefferson Street, Rochester, to conduct full military honors.
