On February 8, 1865, she was united in marriage to Jessie B. Shepherd of Roseville, Illinois, who preceded her in death sixteen years ago. To this union ten children were born, 7 [of] which died at an early age, Julius W., Emily Jane, Nellie and Oliver. Albert E.[lmer] proceeded her two years ago. Those living are Mrs. Nancy Phillips of Conway, Mrs. Lavina Grubb of Red Oak, Mrs. Lucinda Wilt of Atlanta, Mo., Mrs. Anna Watkins of Clarinda and one son, Roy Shepherd of Newburg, Oregon, who was unable to be present at her bedside.
She united with the church of Christ in her early married life and remained faithful throughout her life. She loved to attend the church services but for the last two years her health has not permitted her to attend regularly. She was a good mother and a true friend and will be missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services were held at her home on June 1st, conducted by Rev. Lucas, formerly a Bedford minister, and the body was laid beside her husband in the Bedford cemetery.
