Gene Drane, 1924-2017 - Posted Columbia Daily Tribune, Sep 13, 2017 at 12:01 AM

Gene McBride Drane, 93, of Columbia passed away at home surrounded by family and friends on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Internment will be private for the family at a later date.
Born June 21, 1924 in Columbia, on the family farm, he attended the one room schoolhouse in Woodlandville, then started high school in Harrisburg and ultimately graduated from Hickman High School in 1941.
He began his studies at the University of Missouri - Columbia then joined the war effort and served in the United States Army in World War II as a Second Lieutenant in Italy.
It was there he met his wife, Jenny Idamaria Corvo, at a Red Cross dance, then married her on August 11, 1946 in Milan. They were married 58 years until she passed in 2004.
Gene graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Mizzou and along with his business partner Forrest Bennett started his own electrical engineering firm in Honolulu after helping to rebuild Pearl Harbor.
Gene was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Our Lady of Lourdes, the Knights of Columbus, and the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre. He spent his time volunteering at Habitat for Humanity (and was a recipient of the Golden Hammer Award for over 1,000 hours of service), the Eagle Board of the Aloha Council of the Boys Scouts of America, Sacred Heart Catholic Church Parish Council, as well as various committees and boards. In his free time he loved to read books and watch sports.
Gene and Jenny had two children, a beloved daughter, Colette; and a cherished son, Scott (Brett) of Rancho Mirage, Calif. They had only one granddaughter, Nicole (Justin) of Kansas City, whom they adored. He is also survived by brother, Wallace (Shirley).
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oren Glenn and Anna (Semon) Drane; and sister, Dorothea (Bill) Dowler of Clemson, S.C.
The family would like to thank Boone Hospice for their care and support.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Father Tolton High School, Sacred Heart Church Brick and Mortar Fund, Show Me Central Habitat for Humanity, or the charity of donor's choice.
